From July 12th to 14th, the Alberta Youth Lawn Bowling Tournament took place at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club, showcasing an incredible display of talent, determination, and sportsmanship. The young athletes competed fiercely, with many matches coming down to the wire and being decided by the dreaded one-end tie breaker after players split the two seven-end games. The steady improvement in play and the tight matches made for an exhilarating experience for both players and spectators.
Announcing the Medalists
Women’s Division:
- Gold: Teryn Mitchell
- Silver: Kiera Schaelow
- Bronze: Elizabeth Martin
A special shout-out goes to Emily Martin, who also deserves a bronze medal for her outstanding performance. She tied with her sister Elizabeth in every aspect except the plus/minus score!
The women’s division saw a dramatic series of matches, particularly between Kiera Schaelow and Teryn Mitchell. They each won a match against each other in a tie break end, which added to the excitement as they faced off in the final game. Once again, the championship was decided by a one-end tie break, highlighting the intensity and skill of these young athletes.
Men’s Division:
- Gold: Quinten Stanyer
- Silver: Hudson Durant
- Bronze: Yuen Stanyer
The men’s division was equally thrilling, with half of the round-robin games going to a one-end tie break. The final match for the gold and silver medals was no exception, ending in a nail-biting one-end tie break. Quinten Stanyer emerged victorious, securing the gold, with Hudson Durant taking the silver, and Yuen Stanyer earning the bronze.

A huge thank you to Umpire Bill Black, who ensured every match was a learning experience for the players while performing his duties with utmost professionalism. Pat Vos, the Drawmaster, deserves applause for mastering a new online scoring system, making the tournament run smoothly.
