On June 14-15, the Bowls Alberta Development Squad convened at the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club for an intensive intra-squad training camp. Bringing together players from Edmonton and Calgary, the camp transcended traditional boundaries of gender, age, and physical ability categories. Instead, the focus was on teamwork and preparation for the upcoming season.
Coach Patricia Vos, recently returned from coaching Team Canada Para athletes in South Africa, including standout Jack Smart, expertly coordinated the camp. Her experience and dedication were evident as she guided the players through a series of challenging and engaging exercises.
Players competed in five-player teams, showcasing their skills and dedication in spirited competition. The format allowed for a dynamic and inclusive atmosphere, where each player’s unique strengths contributed to the overall success of their team. The competition was fierce, but the camaraderie and mutual respect among players were even more remarkable.
This event underscored both skill development and the inclusive future of bowls in Alberta. By uniting players from different backgrounds and locations, the squad is fostering a supportive environment where everyone can excel. The training camp not only honed the players’ skills but also strengthened the bonds between them, creating a cohesive and motivated team ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season.
Coach Vos’s leadership and the enthusiastic participation of all involved promise a bright season ahead. The Bowls Alberta Development Squad is poised for success, and the future of lawn bowling in Alberta looks more inclusive and vibrant than ever.
