Youth going to Canadian Championships

Category : News Item 2018

This past weekend the Youth Tournament was held in Edmonton at the Highlands LBC.  A big thank you to the club for being great hosts and to all their volunteers that helped prepare refreshments, serve a lunch, prepare the greens each day, play the U25 players and mark the singles games.

U25 players, Stacy Malcolm and Andrew Mason got some great game experience playing three games on the Saturday.  As avid curlers, they are looking forward to their first Canadian experience in bowls.

One young junior boy, Andrew Davison, is off to the Youth Championships for the first time as well.  He hopes to gain some valuable experience at the tournament.

Three junior girls played off for medals in a double round robin tournament on Saturday and Sunday.  Kiera Schaelow took the gold, playing extremely well and consistently all weekend. She is off to the nationals for her second time. Alexis Gallacher took the silver, and after a fourth place finish at the nationals last year she is eager to see if she can improve on that this year.  New bowler, and another avid curler, Stacy Malcolm, received the bronze.  This will be her first time at the Youth Championships and she has shown great potential.

Accompanying the youth, along with their chaperones, will be AB Head coach, Derek Dillon and coach Cecilia Gillespie from Highlands.

Updating to the New Domain

Category : News Item 2018

The last week has been a very busy time as we have made the switch from the Lawn Bowls Association of Alberta to our new association name, Bowls Alberta. This meant switching from our old domain of bowls.ab.ca to the new site: www.BowlsAlberta.com. This wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be!

It created a number of challenges and our site crashed several times, our membership database was up and down, we didn’t report on the BC AB Development Team Challenge, and getting the registration links for events was stalled.

We did report on the BC AB Development Team Challenge on our Facebook page. So do check that page out and follow us there for more frequent news updates.

And now…we should be fully functional again. Registration links for tournaments are now available to sign up for all events! We’ve also updated the member club resource section. Check it out: Club Resources and Forms

Thanks for your patience.  Keep rolling!

News about upcoming club coach courses, player development camps and steps to become an umpire in 2018 have all been added as well.  Check out the appropriate link under the “Programs” section.

The Conditions of Play for 2018 are in the final approval stages and then those along with the Tournament Posters will be released.  Stay tuned!

General Meeting, April 14

Category : News Item 2018

We had another successful General Membership Meeting in Red Deer this past Saturday. The clubs were well represented but notably absent was Medicine Hat. We shared club and committee reports, approved a budget for 2018, passed a resolution to change our association name to Bowls Alberta, and learned about the long range strategic plans for our association. As usual, midway through our meeting, we had a great lunch provided by Living Stones Church.

The date for our AGM was announced: Oct. 27, 2018. The location is still to be determined as Living Stones Church will no longer be available much to our disappointment.  And now….we wait for the seasons to begin at the clubs!
